The tourism industry is forecast to experience continued strong growth in the years to come. To support the industry's success, and facilitate this projected growth, industry must work together to ensure we have access to suitable skilled labour.

Appropriately skilled, quality personnel are integral to the success of business in any industry, and can provide a competitive advantage.

Customers already expect high level service from our businesses. This means that industry must find innovative and flexible ways to manage our existing and future staff. It will require looking beyond traditional methods and sources to attract and retain staff.

Help with Staffing and Training

The Australian Government has introduced additional apprenticeship kickā€start payments which include a $2350 commencement bonus and $2500 after nine months for employers who take on eligible apprentices. Employer Resource Kit

The Employer Resource Kit is a user-friendly guide to workforce planning with resources to help you develop and introduce workforce plans into your business and to implement strategies responding to today's workforce issues.

The kit includes:

  • A series of information cards on workforce topics.
  • A workforce planning guide that provides the steps and templates for businesses to undertake workforce planning.
  • A "cost of recruitment" tool.
  • A CD containing simple, effective templates and a case study demonstrating effective workforce planning.

 

Hard copies are available from your local Regional Development Board or Business Enterprise Centre.

Food, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Advisory Council SA Inc

The Food, Tourism and Hospitality Industry Skills Advisory Council SA Inc is one of nine Industry Skills Boards working with industry, community, and government to develop industry specific work plans, identify workforce trends and emerging skill needs and consider issues relating to career advice and the attraction and retention of a skilled workforce.

It has been established to represent the interests of the food and beverage processing and manufacturing, and tourism and hospitality industries in South Australia.
