Local Government in Tourism

The tourism and visitor economy is becoming more prevalent within the local government arena in South Australia with many councils wishing to work with and support tourism operators, as well as offering council-led events and tourism initiatives.
SATIC understands that Local Government is vital to tourism; supporting State events, hosting local events, providing and maintaining tourism infrastructure, operating Visitor Information Centres and supporting local operators. With strong connections to tourism operators and relevant organisations, SATIC is providing support for councils with their tourism pursuits.
Local government engagement is core business for SATIC as we seek to influence the level of investment by government in the sector and support our members in developing their businesses and the regulatory environment they operate in.
It goes without saying the interface between council and business is really critical to ensure regulatory processes are undertaken and business can get on and do what it does best: produce services and products.
SATIC meets with councils to discuss everything tourism-related and support the shared agenda of tourism making a strong and positive contribution to all local communities across the State.
SATIC’s aim is to assist and support local governments with their tourism needs as a Council, to offer learning and networking opportunities and to grow tourism connections.

"As the City of Adelaide continues to grow and evolve, so too has the ongoing need for Council to be across the latest tourism trends and opportunities. Being a member of SATIC enables Council to engage with industry partners, learn from our peers and collaborate with key tourism stakeholders. It also provides us with access to useful information and research which helps inform our strategic planning and day-to-day operations and identify opportunities to support and assist the industry in the future." Naomi Marsh | Adelaide City Council
"I have found SATIC to be the most effective organisation for local government to partner with in the visitor attraction business. SATIC “gets” the important role that local government can play, in increasing South Australia’s share in attracting the tourism dollar, and has clearly shown to me they are experienced and energetic, and willing to take that extra step to promote the business of visitors." Peter Kennedy | City of Unley
