Industry Remains Optimistic – Tourism Barometer Sept 2018

The SATIC Tourism Barometer survey for the September quarter of 2018 found that tourism operators remain optimistic with the Business Activity Index rising by 9% to 125 points and the Business Outlook Index up by 8% to 132 points. Both indices are well above the mid-point of 100[1].

I recently presented at an education conference in Melbourne. So on this Tuesday evening, I wandered into this beautiful Louis Vuitton store just downstairs in my hotel. So there I was, feeling totally inadequate, and watching other shoppers (mostly Asians) spending their cash on shoes that in my view, were just plain ugly. In my defence, I wasn’t wearing anything shabby. In fact my humble Ted Baker boots and Ralph Lauren clothes looked pretty good on me that night. But clearly, Louis Vuitton was out of my league, despite the fact that I was a Chinese visitor to the store.
