Three of South Australia’s best regional tourism experiences were awarded major prizes at the 2016 Qantas Australian Tourism Awards, held in Darwin. Congratulations to Seppeltsfield Estate Winery, The Frames and Yondah Beach House. Four other South Australian tourism businesses were also awarded silver and bronze medals recognising the amazing contribution they make to the State. View all South Australian winners>

Premier Jay Weatherill officially launched SATIC and ATEC's Event Program and Tourism Awards at one of the State's most popular tourist attractions, the Botanic Gardens on Wednesday, 22 February. The exclusive Talking Tourism networking function also treated attendees to industry guest speakers including Sandy Pitcher, Chief Executive at the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources. Tourism businesses across South Australia are set to benefit from a suite of business development programs being rolled out by SATIC during 2017.

On Thursday, 8 December, tourism friends and colleagues came together for celebratory Christmas drinks at Penfolds Magill Estate, hosted by SATIC and the Australian Tourism Export Council. Before enjoying an evening of networking with canapés and beverages, guests were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the venue.

November 30 2016

On Wednesday, 30 November SATIC held its first Service Excellence Workshop at SAHMRI. The workshop presented by Amy Smedley, Principal with Studio S2 Architects, looked at buildings & experiences and how this affects profits. Attendees were also treated to a complimentary tour of the SAHMRI building, undertaken by Monique Littlejohn, Development Director at SAHMRI.

SATIC hosted its Annual General Meeting and Talking Tourism networking function at CMS Strategic. International guest speaker, Albert Teo, Managing Director of the award-winning Borneo Eco Tours and Sukau Rainforest Lodge, inspired members as he took them along his 39 year tourism journey, specifically sharing his involvement within communities to develop ecotourism in general and wildlife tourism in particular.

Tourism’s Night of Nights was a prestigious industry event revealing South Australia’s finest tourism businesses and individuals for 2016. More than 720 people celebrated 30 category winners, two Half of Fame inductees and 68 medallists. This year a new award was introduced – The Premier’s Awards for Service Excellence, which is a highly regarded acknowledgement, recognising the finalist who demonstrated the most outstanding customer service experience as part of their submission and site visitation. On Thursday, 18 August, Leon Bignell MP, Minister for Tourism, invited members of the South Australian tourism industry to a special Talking Tourism networking event at Parliament House. The evening provided a great opportunity for tourism members to get together, network and discuss key industry issues with both the Minister and members of the SATIC Board over South Australian canapés, beer and wine. Attendees also heard from our industry guest speaker, Luke Talbot-Male – Managing Director at Adventures Beyond Group.

July 27 2016

The SATIC Board and ATEC SA Branch Committee invited regional tourism operators to an evening of Talking Tourism at McLaren Vale Motel and Apartments. This exclusive networking function enabled regional tourism members to get together and discuss tourism issues and opportunities, as well as meet the Board and hear what they are doing in an advocacy role for SA Tourism. Guest speakers included Stuart Livingstone – Chief Executive of Top Parks of Australia Limited and Chairman of SATIC, Grant Burton – Director of Gray Line Adelaide and Deputy Chair of ATEC and Miranda Lang – Executive Officer of Fleurieu Peninsula Tourism.

The 2016 SATIC Tourism Conference drew record attendance with over 280 delegates. The must-attend, one-day Conference, held at the Hilton Adelaide had a line up of more than 22 impressive speakers, seven inspiring presentations and 14 practical workshops to choose from. After a full-day of learning, engaging and being inspired, delegates came together in the evening for an exclusive networking function with a selection of South Australian wine, beer and canapés.

SATIC kicked off its annual Tourism Conference with the 2016 Leadership Dinner, held at the Hilton Adelaide. Special guest Dr David Cropley, expert in creative problem solving and innovation, inspired attendees as he defined and discussed innovation, and the role they play in economic growth and prosperity.

Members, Award entrants, sponsors and key industry stakeholders came together to celebrate the launch of the 2016 SATIC Events Program and South Australian Tourism Awards at the Majestic Roof Garden Hotel. Guests were treated to an exclusive hotel tour before launching into an afternoon of networking. Master of Ceremonies was Briony Hume from SA Life TV and special guest speaker was Garry Watson – Chair of Judges for the Australian Tourism Awards.

Winners and sponsors of the 2015 South Australian Tourism Awards came together for an afternoon with nature at Cleland Wildlife Park on 25 February. The exclusive event treated guests to a Cleland Sampler Tour, before launching into a networking opportunity with guest speakers Rodney Harrex - Chief Executive of the SA Tourism Commission, Johan Revalk - Chief Executive Officer of Taxi Council SA, and Roscoe Shelton - Manager Commercial Operations at the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources.

The tourism industry celebrated the year that was 2015 at the Adelaide Oval for SATIC's Christmas drinks on 10 December. It was a sold-out event, with guests treated to a behind-the-scenes tour and then networking into the evening with guest speaker Drew Kluska, Managing Director of The Tailor - a multi-award winning inbound tour operator.

SATIC was pleased to facilitate an inaugural meeting between metropolitan Adelaide council representatives on 8 October at the City Of Charles Sturt.  Participants from 14 metro councils came together to discuss the visitor economy and to workshop ideas that the group can work on for the future. Presentations from the SATC, LGA of SA and SATIC assisted in connecting the dots between these organisations and initiating intense conversations.

SATIC held its first Tourism Leadership Dinner at the Intercontinental Adelaide with special guest Andrew McEvoy, Chair of the Riverbank Authority who shared his vision for Adelaide's Riverbank and talked about what really matters in bringing visitors to great places.

SATIC held its inaugural Local Government in Tourism forum at the Intercontinental Adelaide with more than 50 representatives across 31 Councils - a great representation from the State, with half from regional South Australia. The session provided informative practical presentations and feedback received from attendees offered more than 50 suggestions for future forums. It is anticipated that this forum will become a regular annual event.

Each year SATIC works hard to create an inspiring, relevant and practical program to suit all sectors of the industry.
